Profuse sweating, called hyperhidrosis, is not only a personal hygiene problem, it is also a very embarrassing problem that can severely impact upon your confidence.
Anti-sweat products available on the market, like anti-perspirants and deodorants, can only do much to help curb this problem.
There are other treatments available, including chemical formulations like aluminium hydroxide preparations and ionophoresis, however, these are expensive, strong and time consuming. At The Skin Culturist we use a NICE and FDA approved treatment, using Botox to target hyperhidrosis of the hands, feet, underarms, head and face amongst other discrete areas. According to clinical studies, this form of treatment consistently demonstrates a high success rate.
There are lots of benefits to having anti-sweat injections. These include:
• An increase in self-confidence
• Results that last for more than 12 months after treatment
• No concerns over sweat patches, stained clothing or embarrassing smells
• The ability to wear any clothing and in any colour.
Our patients told us that they used to have to change their clothes during the day because of excessive sweat. After, having the anti-sweat injections they no longer need to do this and they also claim to not need anti-perspirant.
Anti-Sweat injections are a simple and non-invasive procedure. Several injections are made into the sweat glands, about 1cm in distance from one another, injecting Botox into the body. The Botox interferes with the nerves to the sweat glands, the result is that less stress is produced.
The results of the anti-sweat injections are usually visible within 7 to 10 days. Treatment can be repeated as often as they are required and over time, you will require less treatment. This treatment lasts longer than a year, so it doesn’t need to be repeated regularly.
When the Botox is initially administered there will be some bruising, swelling and redness where the needles were injected into the skin. You may also experience a frozen look, you may not be able to move the muscles in your face properly if too much Botox is injected. You might also experience a temporary weakness and experience some droopiness in your face.
Your specialist will discuss all of the side effects that are associated with Botox with you before your procedure.
