AQUALYX® is an enzyme that is used to break down localised pockets of fat under the surface of the skin. It is not a weight loss solution, but it does help to remove stubborn fatty areas that are not reduced by exercise or dieting.
This treatment is suitable for a variety of areas, including: under the chin, the armpits (bra fat), back, stomach, hips and knees.
While this is a permanent solution, patients are advised to continue leading a health lifestyle, including a healthy diet and exercise, to ensure they do not gain weight otherwise the fact can reappear.
This treatment works on the same principle as the way our bodies break down fat. Our bodies produce an acid called desoxycholan, this is a bile acid that helps the digestion of fat. This Aqualyx® solution contains the same bile acid our bodies make naturally, and its fat dissolving properties are utilised in this treatment for targeted fat reduction. It works by attaching itself to the wall of the fat which makes the fat cells unstable and releases the content of the fat into the body, which the body then uses up as energy.
Aqualyx® injections can be administered anywhere on the body, but common treatment areas include:
• Double chin
• Pre jowl sulcus
• Upper arms
• Arm pits
• Waist
• Hips
• Saddle bags
• Knees
• Fat depots on buttocks, chest and inner thighs
• Condition: buffalo-humps.
The number of treatments required largely depends on what area you would like to be treated.
One treatment of AQUALYX® usually includes only 1 or 2 injection sites, as well as a local anaesthetic solution of lidocaine which is used to irradicate any pain and make the procedure as comfortable as possible.
Depending on the size of the area you will likely need 2 – 8 treatments. Large areas, such as the stomach, will need more AQUALYX® treatments than a smaller area like the chin.
The Aqualyx® treatment is injected directly into the subcutaneous fat tissue.
Immediately after treatment the area may be slightly red or swollen, this usually settles within 1-2 days. There is no recovery time following this procedure, however, you should avoid strenuous exercise and heat for seven days after having this treatment. It is also crucial that you maintain a healthy diet after this procedure as fatty acids are being released and utilised as energy, is it important to make sure that the body doesn’t store this as fat.
