This infographic helps you to identify your skin type, which is very important. But what do we mean by skin type?
Skin type refers to the condition of your skin. The condition of your skin is based on genetics, but also environmental and lifestyle factors. Environmental and lifestyle factors are ones we can manipulate and protect against, but our genetics are something we have to take into consideration and work with.
Understanding our skin type is very important, because without understanding it, we aren’t able to properly care for our skin. Different skin types need looking after in different ways, what is a good product, tip or method to use on one skin type, might actually be damaging for another skin type. So before you start buying products and trying new things on your skin, it is incredibly important you evaluate exactly what your skin type is first.
Keep in mind that skin types change daily, especially for women. Women’s monthly cycles and the hormones that come with that ensure our skin is always changing, so a woman with a dry skin type might find that for one or two weeks during the month, her skin becomes oily (for example).
It is also important to also keep in mind that skin type can change over time. As we mentioned, environmental factors have an impact on skin, but so do hormones, age and any health or medical issues you have personally. Therefore, you can’t just determine your skin type and assume it will always remain the same, you need to regularly evaluate your skin type to make sure it remains unchanged.
